KELLOGG, Idaho (TCD) -- A 31-year-old man accused of gunning down his four neighbors this week allegedly said he "snapped" because one of the victims exposed himself to one of the suspect's children and his wife.
On Sunday, June 18, at 7:20 p.m., Kellogg Police responded to a call about a shooting at an apartment on the 500 block of West Brown Avenue and found four victims deceased from gunshot wounds. Idaho State Police took over the investigation and said they arrested Majorjon Kaylor and charged him with four counts of first-degree murder and one count of burglary.
The Shoshone County Coroner’s Office identified the victims as 65-year-old Kenneth Guardipee, 41-year-old Kenna Guardipee, 18-year-old Devin Smith, and 16-year-old Aiken Smith. The Associated Press reports Kenneth is Kenna’s father, and the two teens are Kenna’s sons.
According to Kaylor’s probable cause affidavit, Kenna, Kenneth, and Aiken all suffered gunshot wounds to their right temples, which "appeared to have been fired within close proximity." Police found Devin with "multiple gunshot wounds to the head."
Devin and Aiken Smith were killed inside the apartment, while Kenneth and Kenna Guardipee were shot outside near the entrance.
The affidavit says Kaylor told police he was "suspicious and concerned for his children" because Devin Smith "had been acting suspicious, watching his kids, and conducted acts of nudity in front of his children."
Kaylor allegedly called Devin Smith a "pedophile" and said he spoke with the Guardipees in the past about his concerns. Kaylor reportedly said he "'snapped, 'lost it,' and 'did something about it.'"
Police interviewed Kaylor’s wife, Kaylie, who said she saw Kenneth and Kenna Guardipee "fall to the ground" but "did not remember seeing Kaylor holding the gun." Following the shooting, she reportedly heard Kaylor on the phone "saying he killed four people."
According to the affidavit, Kaylie Kaylor told investigators that on June 13, she "observed Devin Smith, fully nude, holding his penis, masturbating in front of her and her juvenile daughter through a window."
Police reportedly responded at the time and investigated.
On June 18 at 6 p.m., an hour before the shooting, the Kaylors reportedly spoke with Kenna Guardipee "about the inappropriate behavior of her son, Devin Smith, and their lack of taking the situation seriously."
Kaylie Kaylor reportedly was "concerned that there would be no consequences for Devin Smith’s actions either by law enforcement or Devin Smith’s family."
The affidavit says the Kaylors discussed their plans if Devin allegedly exposed himself again, and Majorjon Kaylor allegedly said he "was going to take care of it."
Kaylie said she believed it was "more like beating someone up."
According to the Spokane Spokesman-Review, Devin Smith reportedly had a learning disability but was working on it at school. One of his classmates alleged inappropriate behavior, too.
Shoshone County Prosecutor Benjamin Allen reportedly said in court Tuesday, "Admissions were ultimately made to the offenses charged."
Allen called the shootings "horrific" and mentioned Kaylor has a "sparse and sporadic criminal history."
Kaylor is being held in the Shoshone County Jail without bond.
