LINN COUNTY, Iowa (TCD) -- A man who was convicted of killing his parents and his 19-year-old sister in 2021 will spend the rest of his life in prison.
On June 15, 2021, at 8:23 a.m., Cedar Rapids Police responded to a shooting at a home on Oak Leaf Court NE and found four victims suffering from gunshot wounds. Jan Jackson, 61, Melissa Jackson, 68, and Sabrina Jackson were all pronounced dead and discovered in different rooms of the home.
The fourth victim, Alexander Jackson, was transported to a hospital to treat a gunshot wound to his foot.
Alexander Jackson initially called police and told them someone broke into their home and opened fire. Jackson reportedly said he woke up and tried to fight off the intruder but was shot in the foot in the process.
However, upon further search of the home, investigators didn't notice any evidence of forced entry, and security cameras didn't show an intruder.
A palm print on a recovered gun matched Alexander Jackson, and he was arrested and booked into Linn County Jail for three counts of first-degree murder.
Jackson never confessed to the shooting, and a motive wasn't established, but he was found guilty on all charges on Wednesday, Jan. 25.
According to KCCI-TV, Jackson was recently sentenced to three consecutive life sentences in prison without the possibility of parole. The judge also ordered him to pay $450,000 in restitution.
