ANAHEIM, Calif. (TCD) -- A 26-year-old man faces murder charges after he allegedly killed his co-worker and his co-worker’s roommate at their apartment last week.
On Tuesday, April 19, the Anaheim Police Department said detectives were at the scene of double homicide at an apartment on the 2100 block of East Katella Avenue after receiving a call about a possible assault in progress. Officers who first arrived at the scene found two deceased adult males inside the apartment, while another was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
Later that day, Anaheim Police announced Ramy Fahim was arrested on suspicion of murder.
The Orange County District Attorney’s Office said April 22 it was charging Fahim with two counts of murder, as well as two enhancements each of lying in wait, multiple murders, and the personal use of a deadly weapon.
According to the statement, Fahim allegedly stabbed his co-worker Griffin Cuomo and Cuomo’s roommate, Jonathan Bahm, both 23, at 6:30 a.m. on April 19. Cuomo and Fahim worked together at a wealth management company based on Orange County.
Orange County District Attorney Todd Spitzer said in this statement, "These young men were just starting to live out their dreams and find their places in the world. But an intruder who stalked them and then slashed them to death in their own home interrupted those dreams."
The District Attorney’s Office said a security guard reportedly saw Fahim on the apartment complex’s roof at midnight on April 18. Fahim was still inside the apartment when Anaheim Police arrived.
According to KTLA-TV, officers found a large knife that the scene, and neighbors saw blood "everywhere," including in the elevator.
Cuomo and Bahm both recently graduated from Chapman University in Orange County. One of Cuomo’s professors and assistant dean Dr. Andi Weber told the Orange County Register, "I remember thinking, on multiple occasions, that I hope my own kids turn out half as kind, humble, appreciative, and enthusiastic as Griffin."
Due to the murder charges and special circumstances, Fahim could be eligible for the death penalty. He is currently being held without bail at the Intake Release Center.
