CHOCTAW, Okla. (TCD) -- A 16-year-old was fatally shot and others were injured Friday evening during a high school football game.
In a statement, the Choctaw Police Department said the shooting broke out in the visitors side of the stadium during the third quarter of a game between Choctaw High School and Del City High School in what police believe was an argument between "at least two males."
A 16-year-old male, who KFOR-TV identified as Cordae Carter, was shot in the groin and later died from his injuries. Choctaw Police said Carter was not a student at either Choctaw or Del City High School.
A 42-year-old man also sustained a gunshot wound to the chest and he was transported to the Oklahoma University Trauma Center, where he underwent surgery for "most of the night." He is reportedly in stable condition now. A 15-year-old girl was shot in the thigh and two other teens were treated for a broken wrist and broken leg, which they sustained while trying to escape.
According to Choctaw Police, investigators located two guns and eight rounds at the scene. Police identified a person of interest as a tall Black male wearing red sweatpants.
In a news conference Monday, Aug. 28, the Oklahoma County Sheriff’s Office said an off-duty Del City Police officer shot the 42-year-old man in the chest because he "perceived a threat." The Oklahoma County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the officer-involved shooting and said the "nature of that perceived threat is still under investigation."
Choctaw Police are investigating the incident leading to Carter’s killing.
