KENDALL COUNTY, Ill. (TCN) -- A man will spend 3 1/2 decades behind bars for sexually assaulting his two grandchildren.
According to Kendall County State’s Attorney Eric Weis, a judge sentenced Luis Gonzalez of Plano, Illinois, last week to 35 years in prison after he was previously convicted of five counts of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child. He’ll have to serve 85% of the sentence before being eligible for mandatory supervised release.
In October 2019, two separate victims came forward to family members and said the defendant, their step-grandfather, "had committed multiple horrific sexual acts upon each of them starting as early as 5 years of age." The victims reportedly stayed in Gonzalez’s home in Plano during summer visits.
The state’s attorney’s office said, "These sex acts included digital, vaginal, and anal penetration of the children by Gonzalez."
Gonzalez is awaiting trial on a second sexual assault case. If convicted in that case, he faces a natural life sentence in prison.
