ST. LOUIS (TCD) -- A 70-year-old man stands accused of fatally beating his disabled sister in the home they shared because he was upset about having to take care of her.
According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, on Saturday, July 2, Anthony Sokolich allegedly attacked his sister, 63-year-old Kathryn Sokolich, in the 900 block of Alpine Ridge Drive. Anthony reportedly hit her repeatedly to the point of unconsciousness and was the one who called 911.
Officers responded to the home, where they found Kathryn with visible injuries on her face, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. The woman reportedly suffered a "severe brain bleed," and Anthony eventually admitted to hitting her. She died Sunday afternoon.
The victim and suspect lived together, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
Anthony was arrested and booked into St. Louis County for first-degree assault on Saturday, July 2, records show. His arrest came before the victim's death, and additional charges are likely, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
St. Louis County police sergeant Tracy Panus told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, "She [Kathryn] had some disabilities and it appeared he was frustrated with taking care of her."
According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, because of the victim's disability, she was required be in a supervised living situation, and Anthony was the person to fill that role.
Anthony remains held on $250,000 bail, KMOV-TV reports. He is scheduled to appear in court July 12.
