LAKE CHARLES, La. (TCD) --
Four girls age 14 and younger were arrested in the fatal stabbing of a 15-year-old girl inside a grocery store Sunday night.
Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's deputies responded to a reported stabbing at a grocery store on Highway 14 in Lake Charles at about 7:30 p.m. Sunday, the sheriff's office announced Monday.
Deputies said a 15-year-old girl was stabbed in a fight between "several young girls inside the store." The 15-year-old girl was hospitalized and was later pronounced dead.
Detectives arrested four girls: two 13-year-olds, a 14-year-old, and a 12-year-old. One girl was charged with second-degree murder and the other three were charged with principal to second-degree murder. The sheriff's office did not specify which of the girls was charged with the primary offense. The girls, who were not identified due to their age, were held at the Calcasieu Parish Juvenile Detention Center.
"This the third homicide in six months that involved juveniles that ranged from 11 to 16 years old," said Calcasieu Parish Sheriff Tony Mancuso, WWL-TV reports. "They come from all backgrounds, all races. I feel like we have a problem in our community that we're going to have to face and address."
Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Chief Deputy Stitch Guillory said that the confrontation possibly started at a movie theater.
WBRZ-TV reports the homicide occurred at the Walmart store located on Louisiana Highway 14.
