ALLEN, Texas (TCD) -- A 36-year-old woman was taken into custody after barricading herself in her attic when police came to her house to arrest her on suspicion of assault.
On Feb. 5 at 8:53 a.m., the Allen Police Department SWAT team went to Lul Top’s home on the 1500 block of Tanglewood Drive to serve six arrest warrants for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and execute a search warrant for the residence. Top reportedly locked herself in the attic when the SWAT crew entered, and she allegedly would not negotiate with the team. After about an hour, SWAT members deployed chemical agents. She surrendered at 10:50 a.m.
Collin County court records show a judge denied Top bond, deeming her a "danger to the community."
According to Top’s warrant cited by KDFW-TV, on Jan. 8, Top allegedly hit her husband with a stick while her six children witnessed it. The children were taken out of the home by Child Protective Services and later spoke with officials from the Children’s Advocacy Center. Top’s 3-year-old child alleged Top attempted to shove her in a heated oven. The child’s 10-year-old sibling reportedly saved the girl and had to fight Top to rescue her.
Other siblings allegedly said Top regularly consumed alcohol and made them find more if she drank it all. She allegedly said she would cut off their hands with a cleaver if they failed to get more alcohol for her. One of the children reportedly said Top put a knife to his tongue and forced him to drink alcohol. The affidavit says the children alleged Top also threatened to kill them with the cleaver.
KDFW reports the 3-year-old and her 4-year-old sibling had marks on their bodies "resembling knife cuts."
A man filed a protective order against her on Feb. 2, but his relationship to Top was not immediately clear.
