SAN ANGELO, Texas (TCD) --
Three Texas adults were charged with felony injury to a child after a 2-month-old infant was hospitalized with heroin poisoning. The child later died.
San Angelo Police officers responded to a report of an unconscious infant at a residence on Webster Ave. in the early morning hours Saturday, Nov. 7.
Police said the child's condition was so severe that officers transported the child to Shannon Medical Center in a patrol car while one officer administered CPR to the infant. Doctors said the child was experiencing cardio-respiratory failure.
Hospital staff told the officers that the infant had "injection sites on her extremities and head," and that the girl had tested positive for heroin. The baby was then transported to Cook Children's Hospital in Fort Worth.
Detectives said the infant's 21-year-old mother, Destiney Harbour, had given birth at the residence in late August, and said the infant had not received formal medical care since her birth.
Police served a search warrant at the residence and found drug paraphernalia, a small quantity of suspected heroin, methamphetamine, marijuana and pills, according to San Angelo Police.
Destiney Harbour; Harbour's mother, 37-year-old Christin Bradley; and Christin Bradley's boyfriend, 34-year-old Dustin Smock, were arrested and charged with first-degree felony injury to a child. Bradley was released on Sunday after posting bond. Harbour was held on $100,000 bond, and Smock was held on $50,000 bond.
On Tuesday, the 2-month-old girl was pronounced dead. Police said autopsy results were pending.
Police said Thursday the investigation was ongoing and "additional charges may be forthcoming."
