BELLEFONTE, Pa. (TCD) -- A 33-year-old woman was sentenced to a little less than two years behind bars for bathing two of her children in bleach and giving one of them meth.
The Centre Daily Times reports a judge handed Tara Auman a sentence of 11.5 to 23.5 months in the Centre County Correctional Facility with five months of time served after she pleaded no contest to two counts of child endangerment. The judge also sentenced Auman to five years of probation.
According to WJAC-TV, in April, Bellefonte Police received a report from Children and Youth Services alleging Auman smoked meth and gave some to her children. Auman’s oldest child reportedly told police they were "failing school" because they had to take care of their younger siblings due to the fact that Auman was "always sleeping."
The oldest child also told police Auman sprayed some of the children with bleach because she believed there were "bugs coming out of them."
The probable cause affidavit cited by the Centre Daily Times alleged one child informed police their bathroom smelled "like a pool." Another child reportedly became addicted to meth.
During her sentencing, Auman’s children and two adults sat in the courtroom and provided written statements. One child said they have a "lifetime of trust issues," but another said they are "all doing much better" and "got a chance at life that all kids deserve."
