ST. CLOUD, Minn. (TCD) -- A judge has sentenced a woman to 25 years in prison for fatally shooting her friend in the mouth and promoting prostitution while she was in jail.
The Stearns County District Attorney’s Office announced Aug. 24 that Angela Renee Jones was given 300 months (25 years) in prison for the shooting death of Janesa Harris, 146 months for aiding an offender after the fact, and 131 months for promotion of prostitution, all of which will be served concurrently. Jones pleaded guilty to the charges on June 9.
Jones was initially indicted in December 2021 for first-degree premeditated murder and second-degree intentional murder.
According to the District Attorney’s Office, on the evening of June 1 and into the early hours of June 2, 2021, Jones went to Janesa Harris' apartment. The two "had a prior relationship," and the statement says Harris "also cared for Jones and her children."
Jones reportedly told Harris she "did not want Ms. Harris to be around her or in her life."
During their argument, Jones shot Harris in the mouth, and Harris died in her apartment.
On Sept. 3, 2021, at around 9:30 a.m., St. Cloud Police responded to a report of an unconscious person in the street and found a deceased adult female. The body was later identified as 25-year-old Keisa Marie Lange’s and the medical examiner’s office determined she died from a gunshot wound.
One of Jones' co-defendants, Deante Davis, was charged and convicted of killing Lange. He was sentenced to life in prison without parole. The Stearns County District Attorney’s Office said Jones played a role in Lange’s death, as did another woman who allegedly drove Davis, Jones, and Lange before Lange was fatally shot and left on the side of the road.
While in jail, Jones reportedly also "coordinated an arrangement where a fellow inmate would exchange sex for money with Jones' husband."
