COBB COUNTY, Ga. (TCD) -- A 66-year-old man was handed two life sentences plus five years for raping and molesting three generations of victims.
According to a statement from the Cobb County District Attorney's Office, Bennie Johnson "committed multiple acts of sexual assault" on an 8-year-old child. The abuse reportedly began in 2017. During the investigation, Cobb County Police officials learned the victim's mother had been abused by Johnson when she was younger, too.
The District Attorney's Office said another witness came forward and said she was raped by Johnson when he was married to her mother. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports Johnson was arrested in 2018 and has been in custody since then.
Johnson was convicted in February of rape, aggravated child molestation, and two counts of child molestation, the District Attorney's Office said at the time.
The victim's mother said in her impact statement, "This is the beginning of breaking generational curses for my family."
Assistant District Attorney Alex Clark, who helped prosecute the case, said, "Based on the sentencing today, Johnson will never be able to abuse another child again."
