CHARLES COUNTY, Md. (TCD) -- A 20-year-old man was arrested over the weekend after he allegedly ran over a woman with a forklift that he stole from a local Lowe's and then drove off in the victim's car.
According to the Charles County Sheriff's Office, on Sunday, July 2, at 12:40 a.m., law enforcement officials responded to a burglary and theft at the Lowe's Home Improvement on the 2500 block of Crain Highway. The Sheriff's Office alleges the suspect, Bryce Caleb Timothy Brown, broke into the store, took the forklift, and "rammed it through the rear gates."
Brown reportedly drove the forklift out of Lowe's and into a nearby Home Depot parking lot. While in the lot, he hit a parked car with a woman sleeping inside. The woman got out of the car and ran away, but Brown allegedly followed the woman and ran her over. The Sheriff's Office said he stole the victim's car after and drove off.
Officers at the scene found the forklift and the victim, 73-year-old Gloristine Pinkney, pinned underneath. Officials pronounced her dead at the scene.
Charles County Sheriff's Office officials identified Brown as the suspect and arrested him on the night of July 2 on charges of first-degree murder, second-degree murder, assault, theft, and other charges. Pinkney's car was reportedly found near Brown's home.
Brown and Pinkney were not known to each other prior to the incident. He's being held at the Charles County Detention Center without bond.
