SENECA COUNTY, N.Y. (TCD) -- A Florida woman reportedly pleaded guilty this week to trying to light her infant on fire at a rest stop last year.
The Finger Lakes Times reports Lisbeth Collado entered the plea for attempted assault March 13. Her husband, Jamie Avery, reportedly previously pleaded guilty to the same charge in December but filed a motion to withdraw that plea.
According to the Seneca County Sheriff’s Office, on May 3, 2022, at 5:33 a.m., deputies went to Love’s Travel Plaza on Route 414 in Tyre after receiving a call about "several fires" inside the building. While inside the plaza, Collado and Avery allegedly tried to light a 1-year-old child on fire, and the Sheriff’s Office said they ignited the flames inside Love’s Travel Plaza.
The Finger Lakes Times reports the 1-year-old, a girl, was covered in a flammable liquid.
Seneca County Sheriff’s Office deputies reportedly found a 4-year-old child inside the cab of a tractor trailer with "apparent head injuries." An ambulance transported both children to Geneva General Hospital, and the 4-year-old was later flown to another hospital.
The Sheriff’s Office said at the time the children were expected to make full recoveries.
Collado and Avery were arrested at the time on charges of attempted aggravated murder, attempted second-degree murder, second-degree arson, second-degree attempted arson, first-degree attempted assault, and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child.
The Finger Lakes Times reports Collado will be sentenced May 10 to nine years in prison with five years of parole. Avery reportedly has a hearing for his case March 24.
