GULFPORT, Miss. (TCD) -- A 15-year-old suspected shooter and three other teens were taken into custody this week in connection with the death of a pregnant 16-year-old.
On Sunday, April 30, the Gulfport Police Department tweeted officers were investigating a shooting on the 4000 block of 32nd Street and told people to avoid the area.
According to WXXV-TV, Gulfport Police investigators learned 15-year-old Brenton Brumfield allegedly pointed a gun at JaKamori Lake, and it went off. She suffered a gunshot wound to the head and was taken to the hospital, where she died. Lake was reportedly 3 1/2 months pregnant, and her child did not survive.
WXXV reports Lake learned a few days before she was killed that she was expecting a baby boy.
Brumfield was arrested on charges of second-degree murder and homicide of an unborn child, according to WLOX-TV. Police also arrested 19-year-old Jamarrion Jackson, a 13-year-old, and a 17-year-old for hindering the prosecution of another.
WLOX reports Jackson and Brumfield are both being held at the Harrison County Adult Detention Center while the other two teens are at the Harrison County Youth Detention Center.
Brumfield is reportedly being held on a $500,000 bond. Records show Jackson bonded out May 2.
