Man found dead, wrapped in plastic in shopping cart outside Calif. grocery store

CHICO, Calif. (TCD) -- Police are investigating a homicide after man was found wrapped in plastic and placed in a shopping cart outside of a grocery store store over the weekend.
On Sunday, March 12, at 4:15 p.m., the Chico Police Department, Butte EMS, and Cal Fire responded to the Food Maxx in Chico after a person called to report seeing a "subject inside a shopping cart near the front of the store." The caller informed 911 that they believed the person in the cart was deceased.
When EMS arrived, they confirmed the person inside the cart was dead.
According to Chico Police, the victim was wrapped in plastic and "appeared to have suffered visible injuries."
KHSL-TV reports Chico Police identified the victim as 61-year-old Daniel Niles, and investigators believe he had been in the shopping cart for a lengthy amount of time.
