JEFFERSON DAVIS COUNTY, Miss. (TCD) -- Two men were arrested for allegedly kidnapping and raping a toddler from Jefferson Davis County who was found in Lamar County on New Year’s Eve.
According to a news release from the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation, 2-year-old Tylan Herring was last seen Thursday, Dec. 30, 2021, near Barnes Avenue in Jefferson Davis County. The toddler was reportedly found on Friday, Dec. 31, in a Sumrall apartment complex parking lot and transported to a local hospital for examination. The Mississippi Clarion Ledger says dozens of volunteers helped law enforcement in the search for the toddler.
Upon further investigation, WDAM-TV reports that 33-year-old Keldrick Magee and 62-year-old Kim Lodge were arrested in Covington County on Wednesday, Jan. 5. Their first court appearance was scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 6, and they remain held in Jefferson Davis County Jail without bond.
Maggee faces four counts of rape, one count of sexual battery, and one count of kidnapping. Lodge was charged with two counts of rape and one count of kidnapping.
District Attorney Hal Kittrell told WDAM, "The innocence of a child was lost with this assault. An individual (who) does this, these individuals, I don’t understand the mindset. Never have, never will. What I do know is anybody who does this to a child does not deserve to be amongst us."
