NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTIC) -- The suspect linked to New Haven bank robberies was taken into custody after a shootout in Westchester, New York that ended with two officers being shot, the death of a West Haven man, and the location of a missing woman.
Two police officers were shot during a drug bust that ended in gunfire in Westchester County, Anthony Piccolino, Ardsley Chief of police said Tuesday.
The Greenburgh SWAT officers were part of a team of multiple police departments assisting the New York FBI during a drug sting at the Ardsley Acres Hotel Court at 560 Saw Mill River Rd around 11 p.m.
Multiple rounds were fired between the police officers and the perpetrator, Piccolino said.
The officers were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries, the chief said in a press conference early Tuesday morning.
Samuel Galberth, 43, of West Haven was pronounced dead at Westchester County Medical Center. A second man, Darryl Donell Henry, 55, who has been linked to four New Haven bank robberies, was taken into police custody. Henry had been with Galberth in the motel.
A woman, Jeffon Suggs, 26, who had been missing from New Haven, was at the scene as well. She was reported missing May 17, 2019.
Police said Henry, previously of a New Haven address, is wanted for an unrelated robbery of a person. The arrest warrant charges are third degree robbery, second-degree larceny, and third degree assault. They believe he may be connected to robberies at the Wells Fargo bank branch on Foxon Avenue in addition to a third robbery.
A man with a similar description is wanted in connection with other robberies in the New Haven area.
New Haven police said they are aware of the similarities of this suspect and the suspect who robbed the Well Fargo bank branch at 391 Foxon Boulevard on Friday, May 10, 2019, and Saturday, April 27, 2019.
