MADISON, N.C. (TCD) --
A North Carolina woman and an unidentified minor are charged with assault and kidnapping after a woman escaped from the trunk of the suspects' moving vehicle, authorities announced Friday.
Rockingham County Sheriff's deputies responded to a reported assault and kidnapping near a Budget Inn Motel in Madison about 8:17 a.m. Thursday.
Arriving deputies found Kristen Robinson, 38, in the roadway of U.S. Hwy. 220 with severe injuries. Robinson was hospitalized for treatment.
Investigators believe three individuals entered Robinson's room at the motel, assaulted her and put her in the trunk of their vehicle, according to the sheriff's office.
The vehicle drove about 200 yards before Robinson opened the trunk and jumped from the vehicle, which was moving at high speed, deputies said.
Two of the three suspects were identified by sheriff's detectives and arrested.
Eden, N.C. resident Takiyah Broadnax, 21, was charged with first-degree kidnapping; breaking and entering; and assault inflicting serious injury. Broadnax was held in the Rockingham County Detention Center and was scheduled to appear in court on Dec. 1.
An unidentified juvenile was also charged with first-degree kidnapping; breaking and entering; and assault inflicting serious injury. That suspect was held in juvenile detention.
Additional charges and arrests were anticipated in this case, the Rockingham County Sheriff's Office said.
