DIAMOND BAR, Calif. (TCD) -- The Los Angeles County District Attorney announced charges this week against a 40-year-old caretaker who allegedly killed two elderly women at an assisted living facility.
On Tuesday, June 27, Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón said his office charged Jianchun Li with two counts of murder, and he was scheduled to be arraigned the next day.
According to Gascón, on Saturday, June 24, deputies with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department responded to Happy Home Care on Sapphire Canyon Road, where they found two residents, Monica Moon Lee, 75, and Hee Sook Park, 83, deceased. The Sheriff’s Office did not disclose the victims’ cause of death but said foul play is suspected.
Neighbors told KTLA-TV that approximately six people live on the facility’s property.
Investigators with the Sheriff’s Office determined Li, a live-in caretaker at the facility, allegedly killed the two victims.
Gascón said in a statement, "The tragic and brutal murders of these two elderly women at Happy Home Care are a stark reminder of the need for increased vigilance and scrutiny in our care facilities."
He added, "We must ensure that all caretakers are held accountable for their actions. Our hearts go out to the families of these victims, and we will work tirelessly to bring them the justice they deserve."
The investigation is ongoing.
