FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va. (TCD) -- A 67-year-old day care provider was arrested last week for alleged child abuse and neglect of a child.
According to a press release from the Fairfax County Police Department, on Jan. 20, officers were notified after an 8-month-old infant with severe bruising was treated at a nearby hospital.
Upon further investigation, police say the parents noticed the injuries after they picked up their infant on Jan. 19 from an in-home day care center located at 10858 Santa Clara Drive. According to police, the injuries were not life-threatening, but it is believed they were the result of abuse. The hospital reportedly alerted Child Protective Services, who told police.
Shaista Laiq, the operator of the day care center, was interviewed and later arrested on Thursday, Feb. 24. She was reportedly charged with abuse and neglect of a child. According to police, Laiq was eventually released on bond.
The day care center, where Laiq worked for over 20 years, is reportedly in the process of being shut down.
