Tennessee man arrested after his dad's remains are found in the woods

MONROE COUNTY, Tenn. (TCD) -- A 45-year-old man was arrested after his father's remains were found in a wooded area last week.
On May 5, the Monroe County Sheriff's Office said a hiker "found what appeared to be human remains" in a wooded area on Old Furnace Road. The responding detectives and deputies confirmed the remains were human and launched an investigation.
According to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, an autopsy identified the victim as 64-year-old John Henry Ball. Investigators reportedly identified the victim's son, John Scott Ball, as the "individual responsible for his father's death."
Several law enforcement agencies participated in the investigation, including the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, the Monroe County Sheriff's Office, Polk County Sheriff's Office, McMinn County Sheriff's Office, Etowah Police Department, 10th Judicial Drug Task Force, and 10th Judicial District Attorney's Office.
The father's cause of death was not immediately clear.
John Scott Ball was booked into the Polk County Jail on charges of first-degree murder and abuse of a corpse. He is being held without bond.
