DES MOINES, Iowa (TCD) -- A 42-year-old woman was shot and killed Sunday during an argument with someone, allegedly over a lawn tractor.
The Des Moines Police Department announced Monday that they arrested Nery Lopez Morales, 50, on a charge of first-degree murder for killing Amber Burton.
According to KCCI-TV, Des Moines police said in a statement that they found indications "that this was not a death due to natural causes."
WHO-TV reports police arrived to the 900 block of Randolph Street at approximately 8:30 p.m. when they received a call from a neighbor who said they heard screaming from Burton’s house and it sounded like a struggle. Then, the screaming stopped.
When police arrived, they reportedly discovered Burton on the couch with an injury to her torso.
WHO reports Lopez Morales and Burton had an ongoing disagreement regarding a lawn tractor and he allegedly owed her money. Burton and her boyfriend allegedly sold the tractor to Lopez Morales, but on Sunday, she reportedly went to his residence to repossess it.
Polk County Jail records show Morales was being held on $1 million bond.
