BROOKLYN, N.Y. (TCD) -- New York Police Department officers apprehended a 26-year-old man wanted for allegedly stabbing and killing an elderly man in an elevator and injuring a woman in apparent random attacks.
On April 8 at approximately 1:30 p.m., Joevani Vale allegedly approached a 31-year-old woman in front of a building on Nevins Street and "proceeded to slash her in the leg with a sharp object before fleeing."
NYPD Crime Stoppers called the incident "unprovoked."
Within an hour, Vale allegedly fatally stabbed 83-year-old Ramon Cintron in the neck and arm inside the elevator at Wykoff Houses in Brooklyn’s Boerum Hill neighborhood, according to WPIX-TV.
Vale and Cintron lived in the same building, WPIX reports.
On April 10, NYPD Commissioner Keechant Sewell announced Vale was located and taken into custody. According to WPIX, Vale turned himself in at a hospital in Brooklyn.
One neighbor told WPIX Vale "had issues" and said this incident "wasn’t the first time that he got into a situation where he hurt someone in the building with cuts or slashings."
Another neighbor called Cintron a "beautiful person."
