ENID, Okla. (TCD) -- A 51-year-old man was arrested after a 2-year-old girl was found in a motel pool and later died.
On Thursday, April 28, at approximately 1:47 a.m., the Enid Police Department said they received a 911 call about a child drowning in a pool at the Grand Prairie Motel. Officers reportedly responded to the scene and removed the victim, Caliyah Guyton.
According to police, lifesaving measures were performed on Guyton, and she was transported to Integris Bass Baptist Hospital, where she was pronounced deceased. Police said Guyton sustained injuries consistent with sexual assault.
Upon further investigation, Michael Geiger was reportedly identified as the suspect in connection to Guyton’s death and alleged sexual assault. According to police, Geiger fled the scene before officers’ arrival and was later located on a rooftop of a business at 2710 S. Van Buren near the Grand Prairie Motel.
Geiger was arrested and charged with first-degree murder and first-degree rape, police say.
Though Geiger did not admit to the crimes, he allegedly made statements consistent with the physical evidence at the motel. The investigation remains ongoing.
Enid Lt. Bryan Hart said in a statement, "This was an aggravated assault on an innocent child and a very disturbing incident. We’re glad this case was brought to an end in a timely manner with Mr. Geiger’s arrest."
According to police, on March 29, Geiger was released from a 10-year sentence stemming from a kidnapping charge out of Oklahoma County.
