ST. JAMES PARISH, La. (TCD) -- A 50-year-old art teacher was arrested on Tuesday, Jan. 11, for reportedly molesting a student.
According to The Advocate, investigators from the St. James Sheriff's Office had received a hotline report against Lisa Samuels, a teacher within the St. James Parish School. Investigators from The Sheriff's Office had been reportedly working on the case since October 2021.
The Sheriff's Office told The Advocate that the reported molestation occurred a while ago, but the student was not comfortable attending the school with Samuels present.
According to the St. James Parish Sheriff's Office, Samuels was arrested and charged with indecent behavior with juveniles and molestation of a juvenile. She remains held in the St. James Parish jail on $150,000 bail. Sheriff Willy Martin Jr. told The Advocate that if Samuels is released on bail, she'll likely be given a stay-away order in addition to ankle monitoring.
Samuels had reportedly worked in the school system for several years, though the exact duration was not confirmed by The Sheriff's Office.
