LITHONIA, Ga. (TCD) -- A 28-year-old man has been convicted of stabbing his mother to death in 2020 and covering her body with a sheet in the garage.
DeKalb County District Attorney Sherry Boston announced on Monday, Feb. 26, that a jury found Antonio Williams guilty of malice murder, two counts of felony murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a knife during the commission of a felony in connection with the death of his mother, 49-year-old Terri Alexander. Williams’ sentencing will be scheduled in the coming weeks.
On Feb. 25, 2020, the DeKalb County Police Department’s Mobile Crisis Unit responded to a home on White Oak Loop after Alexander and Williams "had been arguing about him not cleaning the bathroom."
Williams hadn’t been taking his medications as prescribed and was transported to Grady’s mental health unit. On March 4, 2020, he was released from the facility, according to the district attorney’s office.
That same day, Alexander reportedly went to Grady after receiving calls from the hospital, and she traveled to the store before returning home. Investigators learned Alexander’s phone was never unlocked again after 2:07 p.m. on March 4, 2020, the district attorney’s office said.
On March 5, officers with the DeKalb County Police Department responded to the White Oak Loop home again to a report of a "person down," where they observed Williams sitting in front of the garage.
According to the district attorney’s office, Williams told police he came home from Grady Memorial Hospital and found his mother unresponsive. He reportedly said he went to his neighbor’s house to ask for help and called 911.
Police found Alexander on the garage floor underneath a sheet with a burn hole. She had sustained multiple stab wounds and was "cold to the touch," the district attorney’s office said.
Additionally, officers noticed firewood, lighter fluid, and charcoal near the victim and in a car in the garage.
According to the district attorney’s office, during a search of the house, police found dried blood, a bloody chef’s knife in Alexander’s room, bloody towels, black trash bags, and empty bleach bottles. In Williams’ bathroom, police noticed bloody shoes, and the bathtub had been filled with water.
According to the victim’s obituary, prior to her death, Alexander worked in the legal and direct sales industries. Additionally, she reportedly served as a pastor and was a writer.
