OLATHE, Kan. -- (WDAF) -- A former teacher and coach faces felony charges, accused of having sex with a 16-year old girl. FOX 4 has been tracking this investigation for nearly two months, and on Friday afternoon, prosecutors charged Michael Jasiczek with unlawful sexual relations.
Jascizek was a beloved teacher and weights coach for more than a decade at Olathe South High School. The students called him “Coach Jazz,” but prosecutors believe he crossed the line with a 16-year-old student.
In early May the Olathe School District placed Jasiczek on administrative leave. Parents called FOX 4 with lots of questions, but there few answers.
Right before school got out for the year Olathe South's principal sent some parents a letter saying another teacher was taking over for Jasiczek.
Now the Johnson County district attorney has charged him with three felony counts of having a sexual relationship with a minor, plus lewd touching.
The student was 16, and while that is old enough to consent to sex in Kansas, it is not okay considering a teacher is in a position of authority over a student. The reported incidents took place between January 1st of this year and May 3rd.
