DELTONA, Fla. (TCD) --
A 20-year-old Florida man was arrested Sunday for sexual battery of a child under the age of 12 after detectives were called to a hospital to investigate the reported sexual offense of a child.
Volusia Sheriff's detectives visited a hospital in Sanford on Sunday after a juvenile's mother reported she found her daughter "in a compromising position" by a man the mother knows, according to the sheriff's office.
The child told her mother the suspect had been sexually abusing her for a year. The Volusia Sheriff's Office identified the suspect as Mossett Matthews, 20, of Deltona.
Detectives arrested Matthews on Sunday afternoon on a warrant for capital sexual battery of a child under the age of 12. Matthews was held at the Volusia County Branch Jail without bail.
WKMG reports that the mother came home from work Saturday night and went to check on her children, who had been at the house with Matthews. She opened the door to a bedroom, where she found her 6-year-old daughter lying in bed with Matthews, and noticed the girl quickly pull up her shorts and underwear, according to a report.
The woman immediately told her daughter and her son who was on the floor playing with an electronic device to leave the room and she left them in the care of their grandmother while she went to calm down before confronting Matthews, WKMG reports.
