OCALA, Fla. (TCD) --
A former elementary school teacher was arrested Friday, Oct. 9, for allegedly molesting a former student of hers.
Christina Ruby Sanchez-Rodriguez, 30, is accused of molesting a 6-year-old student at Evergreen Elementary School in Ocala "approximately two years ago," according to the Marion County Sheriff's Office.
Detectives received information about the allegation when the victim reportedly recently became upset, according to the sheriff's office, upon learning Sanchez-Rodriguez was about to be teacher to one of the child's family members. The male victim reportedly told family the suspect "had touched his private areas" on numerous occasions and didn't want the same thing to happen to someone else.
The boy said Sanchez-Rodriguez told him "she liked him like a 'boyfriend,'" the sheriff's office said.
Detectives said according to family members and school staff, Sanchez-Rodriguez took the child out to lunch and gave him special attention in class. Family said that when the child told her he didn't want her to touch him, she reportedly got upset and would ignore him in class, according to investigators. The child reportedly received gifts from the teacher that he brought home, prompting the family to remove the boy from her classroom. The sheriff's office said that when the suspect found this out, she quit her job.
Christina Ruby Sanchez-Rodriguez was arrested for lewd and lascivious molestation and was held on $25,000 bond.
"Statements given during this investigation have caused concern of the high probability that Sanchez may have more victims," the sheriff's office said.
