JEFFERSON COUNTY, Colo. (TCD) -- A well-known animal rights activist from Evergreen, Colorado, was sentenced to 10 years in prison for her role in a murder-for-hire plot, as well as other charges.
The Jefferson County District Attorney released a statement Tuesday announcing charges against Jennifer Emmi that spanned three separate cases dating back to 2019. According to the District Attorney’s office, the charges included solicitation of murder in the second degree, retaliation against a witness or victim, protection order violation, attempt to influence a public servant, violation of bail bond conditions, menacing with a real/simulated weapon, two counts of child abuse, and second-degree assault.
KUSA-TV reports Emmi pleaded guilty June 28 to charges of retaliation against a witness or victim, stalking, and solicitation of second-degree murder. Other charges against her were dismissed, including solicitation of first-degree murder, another charge of retaliation against a witness or victim, and three charges of stalking.
According to KUSA, Emmi was arrested January 25, 2021. In January 2019, she reportedly found her husband cheating on her and he said he wanted a divorce. She eventually filed for divorce on February 7, 2020, KUSA reports. At the time she found out about the cheating, Emmi reportedly asked several people to kill, harass, and retaliate against her husband and her husband’s new girlfriend.
An informant reportedly said Emmi allegedly reached out to him about murdering her husband’s girlfriend, and reportedly offered thousands of dollars upfront. The informant reportedly told Emmi’s husband, who then contacted police. KUSA reports Emmi allegedly also reached out to a former military sniper about carrying out the killing.
According to KCNC-TV, Emmi allegedly asked the informant, a ranch hand on her property, to "take care" of her husband’s new girlfriend. She allegedly asked the informant if he "knew anyone who could help get rid of her," adding, "Nobody will miss her."
KUSA reports Emmi allegedly targeted a Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office deputy, as well as a deputy district attorney and judge, all of whom were involved in her various cases.
