DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. (TCD) -- The mother of a 7-year-old was arrested on suspicion of murder after the child was found dead and decaying in a vacant apartment.
On June 25, the DeKalb County Homicide Assault Unit began investigating after the girl’s body was found at 2815 Misty Water Drive. Four days later, on June 29, detectives arrested the girl’s mother, Alondra Hobbs, on charges of felony murder and second-degree cruelty.
According to the incident report shared by Law & Crime, someone called 911 to report finding the child in the closet of an apartment that had not been occupied for several months. When the DeKalb County Police officer arrived, they "observed what appeared to be a juvenile female (approximately 2-4 years of age) deceased in the closet."
The officer wrote they "observed what appeared to be a full head of hair and decayed flesh that was in the form of an arm and leg," and immediately called Homicide Assault Detectives. Officers found a piece of mail with Hobbs' name on it inside the apartment.
WXIA-TV reports the victim’s name is Alivia Hobbs-Jordan.
The neighbor who called police told WXIA he became suspicious when he saw the apartment door "wide open" and then smelled a foul odor as he got closer. He claimed the apartment looked like someone "left in a hurry."
The man reportedly walked further into the apartment, saw the child’s arm, and contacted police.
He said the girl "looked like a mummy."
Alivia’s cause of death was not released.
