CHARLES COUNTY, Md. (TCD) -- A 46-year-old man was taken into custody on suspicion of starting a fire in a house that killed his girlfriend's daughter and 1-year-old granddaughter.
According to the Charles County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded to a fire on the 3000 block of Heathcote Road on March 31 at 10:30 p.m. and discovered a townhouse "completely engulfed in flames." Officials discovered an infant girl and adult female deceased inside the residence once the fire was extinguished.
The victims were later identified as 27-year-old Rashawn Cline and her daughter, 1-year-old Dashawn Cline. The Charles County Sheriff's Office worked alongside the Office of the State Fire Marshal and concluded the fire was "arson and deliberately set." The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner ruled Dashawn and Rashawn's deaths homicide as result of the fire.
Investigators identified Vincent Anthony Fisher II as the suspect. Fisher reportedly lived at the Heathcote Road residence with his girlfriend, who is the mother and grandmother of the victims. According to the statement, Fisher was arrested for assault of another resident of the home not long after the fire.
Fisher was booked into the Charles County Detention Center on charges of first-degree murder and arson.
