SPENCER, Okla. (TCD) -- A judge ordered an Oklahoma County man to serve at least 35 years in prison for shooting his then-wife in the head in 2021.
On Oct. 20, 2021, just before 6 a.m., the Spencer Police Department received a call about a shooting at a home on North Douglas Boulevard and found a female suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. Paramedics rushed her to the hospital, where she was listed in stable condition. On Oct. 21, the Oklahoma County Sheriff’s Office announced investigators arrested Aaron Houchins on a charge of intent to kill.
KFOR-TV reports Houchins took a blind plea in connection with the shooting, and on Tuesday, April 11, the Oklahoma County Sheriff’s Office said he was sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole after 35 years.
According to the Oklahoma County Sheriff’s Office, Aaron Houchins shot his wife, Jessica Houchins, because she "would not shut up."
Court records show Jessica Houchins obtained an order of protection against her husband in December 2021. She filed for divorce in June 2022, and it was finalized in November.
