KENOSHA, Wis. (WISN) -- A woman charged with killing a man who she says was trafficking her for sex has been released on bail after nearly two years.
Chrystul Kizer, 19, of Milwaukee, posted a $400,000 bail Monday afternoon. The money was raised by the Chicago Community Bond Fund and other groups.
A judge reduced her $1 million bail to $400,000 in February.
The Washington Post reports that in February 2018, police arrested Randy Volar on charges including child sexual assault, but police released him without bail. Volar remained free for three months, even after police discovered evidence that he was abusing about a dozen underage black girls. He remained free until Chrystul, then 17, went to his house one night in June and allegedly shot him in the head, twice. She lit his body on fire, police said, and fled in his car.
Her defense attorney told a judge Kizer contracted the coronavirus in jail and worried about getting sick again.
Kizer's trial is scheduled to begin in September.
