HAMPTON, Va. (TCD) -- A grand jury has returned a two-count indictment for Cory Bigsby, alleging that he killed his 4-year-old son several months before he reported the boy missing.
The indictment alleges Bigsby killed his son Codi on or around June 18, 2021, and concealed, transported, and altered the body "with malicious intent and to prevent detection of an unlawful act or to prevent the detection of death or the manner or cause of death."
Bigsby reported Codi missing six months later. On Jan. 31, 2022, Bigsby contacted Hampton Police at 9 a.m. and said he last saw his son at approximately 2 a.m. During a press conference at the time, Hampton Police Chief Mark Talbot said he hadn’t received completely reliable information and that the "evidence that we have does not completely match the stories that we have received at this point."
Two days later, Hampton Police identified Bigsby as a person of interest in Codi’s disappearance and later arrested him on suspicion of child neglect. Court records show he also faces 30 counts of child abuse. According to WAVY-TV, those counts relate to Bigsby allegedly leaving his children home alone and not seeking medical care for one of his children, who was hurt.
Codi’s body has still not been found.
