HARRIS COUNTY, Texas (TCD) -- A mother and her boyfriend were reportedly arrested Tuesday in connection to her three children found abandoned in an apartment along with skeletal remains of a juvenile.
On Oct. 24, a 15-year-old boy reported that his 9-year-old brother had been deceased for a year and that his parents had not lived with them in their apartment for several months.
On scene, deputies found the teen along with two other male children, ages 10 and 7, who appeared to be malnourished and suffering from physical injuries. Upon further investigation, authorities discovered the skeletal remains of an 8-year-old boy, consistent with the teen’s description.
Initially, the children’s mother and her boyfriend were reportedly interviewed and released the night of Oct. 24.
On Tuesday, according to KHOU-TV, the medical examiner’s office concluded that the 8-year-old victim’s death was a homicide from blunt-force injuries.
The mother’s boyfriend, 31-year-old Brian Coulter, stands accused of killing the boy in 2020, Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said. The mother, 35-year-old Gloria Williams, has been charged with injury to a child by omission and tampering with evidence.
KHOU reports that Coulter’s bond was set at $1 million on Wednesday and he is reportedly in custody at a mental health facility. KHOU says if he is bonded out, Coulter would be forbidden to contact the children or Williams. Additionally, he would be kept under 24-hour curfew with a GPS monitor without the ability to leave Harris County.
Williams was scheduled to appear in court Wednesday morning.
According to Sheriff Gonzalez, additional charges are expected. The children are in custody of Child Protective Services.
