SHREVEPORT, La. (TCD) -- A 33-year-old Caddo Parish Sheriff’s deputy was fired and charged after allegedly victimizing an elderly woman.
Joey Lee, while in uniform, went to the victim’s home in the 1800 block of E. Kings Highway numerous times and "manipulated her into giving him approximately $15,000 in cash over the span of three months," the Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.
Additionally, Lee allegedly cashed stolen forged checks, also while in uniform.
Detectives learned about the incident on Wednesday, Oct. 12, and Lee was placed on administrative without pay before officially being terminated from his position upon further investigation, according to the Sheriff’s Office. He had reportedly been a deputy for 10 years.
Lee was arrested and booked into the Caddo Correctional Center for forgery, exploitation of persons with infirmities, extortion, conspiracy to commit extortion, and malfeasance in office, the Sheriff’s Office said.
There is reportedly one known victim.
In a statement, Sheriff Steve Prator said, "I’m extremely disappointed in this person’s criminal behavior. He is an embarrassment to the brave men and women who work tirelessly to gain the trust of those we serve."
