ROSEVILLE, Mich. (TCD) -- A 21-year-old babysitter faces charges after a 1-year-old in her care suffered from alleged child abuse and died.
According to WDIV-TV, the abuse allegedly happened on June 13 between 3:30 p.m. and midnight at a residence on the 30000 block of Little Mack Avenue. Officers responded to a hospital where the baby boy was being treated for severe head trauma.
Taylor Starks, the boy’s mother, reportedly picked her son up from her neighbor and babysitter, Kimora Hodges. The babysitter had allegedly been watching the son, Kyrie, on and off for approximately two months.
According to WJBK-TV, on Monday, June 20, Kyrie had no brain activity and later died.
Initially, the babysitter told authorities that Kyrie ate soap and had an allergic reaction, WJBK reports. But during the hospitalization, Kyrie’s mother reportedly learned her son suffered blunt force trauma to the head and was bleeding out his ears and required brain surgery.
Starks told WJBK, "All I know is she threw my son into the wall and shook him up pretty bad, and they said that’s just a bit of what she did to him."
Hodges was arrested on June 14 and booked into Macomb County Jail on $250,000 bond, records show. She was charged with first-degree child abuse, but according to WJBK, Hodges’ charges will likely be upgraded.
