VALE, N.C. (TCD) -- A woman was arrested in connection with the death of her boyfriend's 4-year-old daughter, who was reportedly found covered in bruises.
According to a news release from the Catawba County Sheriff's Office, in the afternoon of Thursday, Nov. 17, deputies and EMS responded to a home on Hill Haven Drive. The victim was reportedly found and transported to a hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries a few days later, on Nov. 20.
The child, later identified as Hazel Lidey, suffered trauma-related injuries, "due to the presence of bruising all over the body," according to a search warrant obtained by WSOC-TV. However, the original call to dispatch was reportedly for an overdose.
The child's father and his girlfriend, Chelsea Crompton, were allegedly home when authorities found the victim.
During a search of the residence, a metal bat was recovered, WSOC reports.
The Sheriff's Office announced that upon further investigation, Crompton was arrested and charged with murder in the death of Hazel. She was booked into the Catawba County Detention Facility without bond and was scheduled to appear in court on Monday, Nov. 28.
