Tad Cummins pleads not guilty to federal kidnapping charges

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- (WZTV) -- Former Maury County teacher Tad Cummins pleaded not guilty to federal charges in the alleged kidnapping of a teenage student.
Cummins has been charged with knowingly transporting a minor across state lines with the intent to engage in sexual activity. If convicted, Cummins faces a minimum of 10 years in prison with a maximum life sentence.
Cummins remains in federal custody at a Kentucky jail after being deemed a flight risk by a California judge. The former teacher left Columbia, Tennessee on March 13, and is accused of taking the 15-year-old across the country. Cummins was captured in a rural part of northern California and the victim was found safely.
