VENICE, Fla. (TCD) --
A Florida woman allegedly broke into a house and attacked her coworker's sleeping husband with a machete before leading deputies on a pursuit early Sunday morning, the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office announced Monday.
Sarasota County Sheriff's deputies responded to a reported burglary at a residence on Burke Road shortly after midnight Sunday. Deputies found a broken bedroom window and an injured man with several lacerations to his body.
Investigators said a woman identified as 27-year-old Alana Gibson broke into the house, where her female coworker lives, and attacked her coworker's husband with a machete while he was asleep. Gibson allegedly tried to strangle the coworker as she intervened.
Deputies said other residents in the house were able to stop Gibson, who fled the scene, leading deputies on a vehicle pursuit into neighboring Charlotte County before she was arrested.
A machete, an ax, a compound bow and multiple arrows belonging to Gibson were found at the house, according to the sheriff's department.
The coworker's husband was hospitalized in stable condition.
Gibson was charged with attempted murder; armed burglary with assault; and fleeing/eluding police. She was held without bond.
Gibson reportedly admitted to planning to kill the husband and convince the man's wife to run away with her, the sheriff's office said.
