ATLANTA (WSB) -- Billboard-charting R&B singer Ann Marie was arrested last week in Atlanta after police say she shot her friend in the head at the Buckhead Intercontinental Hotel.
Police said the incident happened on Dec. 1. Multiple officers responded to reports of a shooting at the hotel. Police found the victim, Jonathan Wright, lying on the floor in the room with a gunshot wound to the head. Wright was able to communicate with officers and answer questions.
Police said Joann Marie Slater, 25, who is known professionally as Ann Marie, was outside the room in the hallway in hysterics.
“The witness appeared to be upset but there were no visible tears coming from her eyes,” police said in an incident report. “The witness was also in a white bathrobe with no other clothing underneath.”
Slater told police that a gun fell off a table and went off, striking Wright. Slater was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.
The Chicago Tribune reports the bullet entered Wright's forehead and appeared to exit his left temple, according to the police report. He was hospitalized in critical condition.
The Chicago Tribune reports Slater was released from the Fulton County Jail shortly after 10 p.m. Wednesday on a $60,000 signature bond, and is required to wear an ankle monitor, and must remain on house arrest with the exception of pre-approved work and legal obligations.
