OAKLEY, Calif. (TCD) -- Law enforcement officials announced they have recovered the remains of a 24-year-old woman who had been missing since January.
Alexis Gabe was reported missing "under suspicious circumstances" to Oakley Police on Jan. 27. She was reportedly last known to be traveling to the home of her ex-boyfriend, Marshall Curtis Jones, in Antioch, KRON-TV reports.
Jones became a suspect in the case, and on June 1, officials from the Oakley and Antioch police departments issued a warrant for his arrest on a charge of murder. According to the Oakley Police Department, the same day police issued the warrant, Jones was killed after he reportedly charged at officers with a knife when they tried to arrest him. Members of the Pacific Northwest Violent Offenders Task Force reportedly opened fire as he ran at them.
According to the Oakley Police Department, on Thursday, Nov. 3, someone in Plymouth, California, came across what looked like human remains. They called the Amador County Sheriff’s Office, and detectives from the Oakley and Antioch police departments also went to the scene.
Officials confirmed the remains were human, and Gabe was positively identified using dental records.
In a press conference Monday, Nov. 7, Detective Tyler Horn said, "Due to the fact that a forensic odontologist confirmed the partial remains via dental records, you can only imagine what we have recovered."
Other evidence at the scene reportedly included garbage bag remnants, duct tape, and earrings.
Horn revealed, "The conditions of the remains did not lead us to a specific manner of death, but we are confident her remains were separated from one another and scattered into several areas."
Jones was the only suspect in Gabe’s death, and Horn said the "criminal aspect of his investigation ceased" the day Jones was killed. The homicide investigation is also reportedly completed now that they have found her remans.
Her remains will be examined at the Contra Costa County Coroner’s Bureau.
