REVERE, Mass. (TCD) -- The Massachusetts State Police confirmed Wednesday that remains found in a bag Tuesday evening are those of a little girl.
According to Massachusetts State Police, on Tuesday, April 11, at 6:23 p.m., Revere Police Department officers responded to an apartment building on Dolphin Avenue in Revere's Beachmont neighborhood after a man called to report finding the remains. The Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit and members of the State Police Crime Scene Services Section arrived at the scene to investigate.
The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner took the remains for an autopsy and forensic evaluation. Investigators determined the child was female, either full-term or close to full-term, and white or light skinned. The statement said the girl's cause and manner of death are still under investigation.
The man who reportedly found the child's remains, Isaias Anibal, told NBC Boston he saw some bags on the ground and went to put them in the garbage. When he moved to throw the second bag out, he "saw the arm and the hand, and then fingers, and then I called 911."
Anibal said the child's face was "in the ground" because the bag was placed upside down.
Massachusetts State Police are seeking information from the public and urging anyone with leads to come forward.
