PALM BEACH, Fla. (TCD) -- A 31-year-old woman allegedly kidnapped her newborn from the NICU this week and stabbed multiple hospital employees as she escaped.
On the evening of Thursday, July 13, Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a report of a stabbing at Palms West Hospital. Kendra Greene allegedly took her 3-day-old infant off a ventilator at the NICU, and hospital staff members tried to stop her as she was leaving.
Greene allegedly pulled out a knife and stabbed three hospital staff members.
According to WPEC-TV, the infant was being treated at the NICU for underdeveloped lungs.
Greene allegedly "violently removed" her infant’s breathing device and other life-supporting instruments. The first victim reportedly begged Greene to stop, but she pushed her and allegedly said, "F--k you, b---h."
According to WPEC, another victim saw Greene carrying something near her body and a large, jagged kitchen knife in her hand as she ran toward an emergency room exit. When the employee tried to talk to Greene, she allegedly cut the employee’s forearm.
A separate witness reportedly tried to block Greene and noticed the infant hidden underneath her shirt. Greene then slashed the witness in the hand.
When another victim tried to grab the baby, Greene allegedly cut her on the side of the neck, WPEC reports.
The hospital staff members were treated for their non-life-threatening injuries and discharged.
Greene reportedly gave her baby to a family member, and Palm Beach County Fire Rescue safely brought the infant back to the hospital. The Sheriff’s Office said the newborn is currently in stable condition.
According to WPEC, Greene drove away from the hospital before crashing her vehicle and fleeing on foot. After a short pursuit, deputies took her into custody.
The Sheriff’s Office booked Greene into the Palm Beach County Jail on charges of cruelty toward child, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, battery, and resisting an officer. She remains held on $302,000 bond.
WPEC reports that Greene suffers from schizophrenia.
