DERBY, Conn. (WTIC) -- Peter Manfredonia has been charged in connection with the murder of Nicholas Eisele and the kidnapping of a woman.
Manfredonia, 23, was formally charged with murder, felony murder, kidnapping with a firearm, robbery, and carrying a pistol without a permit and held on $5 million bond.
Manfredonia had been previously charged with murder; attempted murder; assault; home invasion; armed kidnapping; robbery; larceny; and theft in connection to the murder of 62-year-old Theodore Demers.
The Connecticut Post reports Manfredonia allegedly attacked Demers and his neighbor, 80-year-old John Franco, with a sword. Demers died from his injuries; Franco was critically injured, but was listed in stable condition when Manfredonia captured.
The arrest warrant in the Eisele case says Manfredonia broke into a home two days later and held Eisele at gunpoint until Sunday morning. Police said Manfredonia fled in Eisele's truck with cash and firearms, then crashed the truck in a state park near Derby.
Police were called to Nicholas Eisele's apartment, where another tenant in the building had discovered Eislele's body and told police that Manfredonia had left the scene in a Volkswagen Jetta along with a woman who also lived in the apartment.
Several hours later, police received word that the woman had been dropped off in New Jersey and had been picked up by a good Samaritan. She told police after hearing two gunshots, Manfredonia asked her for the keys to the Jetta. She said he allowed her to get dressed and put $2,000 in a duffel bag. They left the apartment and she drove the Jetta while Manfredonia was in the passenger seat, holding the gun.
At a truck stop in Columbia, New Jersey, Manfredonia left in an Uber, leaving the cash to the woman. Manfredonia was later spotted in Pennsylvania and was captured by police in Maryland several days later.
