ATLANTA (TCD) -- Law enforcement officers apprehended a 31-year-old man who was wanted for allegedly killing a missing 24-year-old woman and disposing of her body in 2022.
According to WAGA-TV, on Saturday, June 1, Georgia Department of Natural Resources officials tried to stop Steven Oboite while he was Jet Skiing on Lake Allatoona because he did not adhere to a rule about causing wakes. Oboite reportedly drove to the shore, got off the Jet Ski, and fled to the woods, where he was caught soon after.
Journalist Cody Alcorn posted a video of Oboite getting chased across the lake and caught.
He was booked into the Bartow County Jail on charges including giving false name, address, or birthday to law enforcement officer and operation of watercraft under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
The Atlanta Police Department had been searching for Oboite for two years as a suspect in Allahnia Lenoir’s disappearance and presumptive death.
Lenoir was last seen in the early morning hours of July 31, 2022, at the Peachtree Apartments in Midtown Atlanta, and she was reported missing the next day. Police began investigating her disappearance and learned Lenoir was at the apartment with Oboite and another suspect, Diante Reynolds.
Atlanta Police Maj. Peter Malecki said in a Sept. 20, 2022, news conference that investigators determined foul play was involved and that Lenoir "did not leave the apartment on her own accord." According to Malecki, Lenoir was likely killed in the apartment, then "potentially relocated to an undetermined location."
Reynolds was arrested Sept. 9, 2022, and booked into the Fulton County Jail on multiple charges, including murder and concealing the death of another. Malecki said at the press conference that investigators were still searching for Oboite, though he was believed to be in the Metro Atlanta area.
Fulton County court records show Oboite was indicted in December 2022 on two counts of felony murder, distribution of a schedule II controlled substance, hindering the apprehension or punishment of a criminal, concealing the death of another, and tampering with evidence.
Lenoir's body reportedly still has not been found.
