HAWAII COUNTY, Hawaii (TCD) -- A 35-year-old man was charged with murder after a man's severely burned remains were found inside a car just off the road.
According to Hawai'i Police, on April 23 at about 3 p.m., officers responded to Beach Road off Maku'u Drive regarding a vehicle on fire with a person inside. Police found the vehicle and the "charred remains" in bushes about 100 feet off the road.
During their investigation, police identified Ammon Stanley as their main suspect. He was arrested later that evening at a residence on 35th Street, police said.
In a subsequent press release, Hawai'i Police announced they charged Stanley with second-degree murder and second-degree assault. According to police, the victim, who remained unnamed, was reportedly shot while sitting in the car. A 36-year-old female was also fired at inside the car, but she reportedly escaped. She was treated for non-life threatening injuries.
Hawai'i Police allege Stanley drove the victim's vehicle — with the victim's body still inside — to Beach Road, then set it aflame.
Stanley's bail has been set at $1,010,000.
