SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (TCD) -- A man was arrested for suspected sex trafficking after a neighbor allegedly noticed that the suspect and a female were arguing.
According to the Scottsdale Police Department, the neighbor believed something was "off" with the couple and called police. As a result, Steven Hurry was reportedly arrested after the altercation.
Hurry reportedly got angry and confronted the victim after she allegedly failed to count the money she got from a "customer that day," KSAZ-TV reports.
Hurry reportedly left the home to fix his vehicle as officers arrived at the scene. He was eventually located and told authorities about the argument, but he denied any abuse and failed to answer any questions about his suspected sex trafficking, KSAZ reports.
During a medical examination, a nurse reportedly noticed signs of physical abuse on the victim.
Police said the female victim told authorities she was was being trafficked, and she allegedly began working for Hurry as a housekeeper. According to KSAZ, they lived together since May 2022 in California.
Hurry reportedly lured the victim to Arizona with the promise of making money. While staying in Tucson, Hurry allegedly persuaded the victim to take photos for an ad offering sex acts.
Police told KSAZ, "The defendant created and posted ads containing the victim’s photographs and advertising sex in the exchange of money, which included $350 per hour for full sex or a quick visit, 15 minutes, for $120."
Hurry and the victim eventually moved into an Airbnb in Scottsdale, according to KSAZ.
For her first job, the victim reportedly told authorities she made $700 for having sexual intercourse with a stranger, but Hurry confiscated the money. Hurry would allegedly beat the victim if she was short on payment or failed to put the money in a place Hurry had requested, KSAZ reports.
Hurry allegedly took the victim’s birth certificate, Social Security card, and other identification papers, and locked them in a secure box she could not access. Although the victim wanted to leave, she couldn’t because Hurry reportedly had control of all of her legal documents and finances.
Police told KSAZ that during a search of Hurry’s computer bag, they found a copy of the victim’s marriage license as well, but the victim didn’t know how he was able to obtain the document.
During the investigation, police confiscated Hurry’s phone. Through text messages, KSAZ reports that the victim and Hurry set up dates with men for money and included details such as the date, time, sex act, and the payment.
Hurry reportedly recorded the sexual encounters and kept them on a USB, which was eventually found at the Airbnb. The victim told authorities she did not consent to the video recordings, KSAZ reports.
According to police, Hurry was arrested and charged for sex trafficking, pandering, sexual abuse, aggravated assault, assault, criminal damage, and disorderly conduct.
